Northern Lincolnshire has had its first day with no new coronavirus deaths in 2021.

NHS England issues a daily report of how many patients with coronavirus have died in each Trust, reported in the 24 hours to the previous evening.

It comes immediately after four deaths were reported yesterday, the highest number in January so far.

The number of Covid patients have gradually been decreasing for several weeks, in contrast to the dire situation in other parts of the country.

A ‘major incident’ has been declared as London hospitals are overwhelmed by huge volumes of patients.

Mayor Sadiq Khan warned that more people would die if urgent steps weren’t taken.

The number of patients in London hospitals grew by 27 per cent in the first week of the year, while the number on ventilators grew by 42 per cent.

There are currently 85 Covid patients being treated by the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS trust.

37 are in Grimsby’s Diana Princess of Wales Hospital and 47 are in Scunthorpe General Hospital. Another patient is being treated at Goole.

As on Friday morning, seven patients are in ICU (five in Scunthorpe and two in Grimsby.)

It was revealed this week that more than 900 people have been admitted to northern Lincolnshire hospitals with coronavirus since the summer.

Around 700 of these recovered and were discharged, but roughly 220 deaths were reported by hospitals during this time.

The figures also revealed 101 Covid patients were admitted to Grimsby, Scunthorpe or Goole hospitals over Christmas.

Tuesday, December 22 saw the worst influx with 25 patients.

17 new beds had to be found on Christmas Day alone for Covid patients.

The Covid case rate has steadily increased since the holiday period.

North Lincolnshire’s rate has risen to 199.1 cases per 100,000 people.

North East Lincolnshire’s rate is now 174.9 per 100,000.
