Surrey records more than 900 new covid cases in 24 hours – Surrey Live

Twenty new coronavirus related hospital deaths have been reported in Surrey as the number of cases increased by 918.

New figures from NHS England show that 16 of the deaths were recorded at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust and four were registered at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust.

The Government said a further 1,243 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Tuesday, which brings the UK total to 81,960.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies for deaths where Covid-19 has been mentioned on the death certificate, together with additional data on deaths that have occurred in recent days, show there have now been 99,000 deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK.

The Government also said that, as of 9am on Tuesday, there had been a further 45,533 lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK. It brings the total number of cases in the UK to 3,118,518.

The number of Covid-19 patients in hospital in England stood at a record 32,202 as of 8am on Tuesday January 12, according to the latest figures from NHS England. 

The figure is up 22% on a week ago, and up 82% since Christmas Day.

In London, the number stands at 7,606 patients, up 12% in a week, while in the Midlands the number is 5,630, up 24%. 

South-east England has 5,546 patients, up 27%; eastern England has 4,260, up 21%; north-west England has 3,785, up 29%; north-east England/Yorkshire has 3,429, up 20%; and south-west England has 1,946, up 38%. 

All regions except London and north-east England/Yorkshire are currently at record levels of Covid-19 patients.

The number of people in the UK to have been given a first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine as of Tuesday is more than 2.4 million, according to Government figures, up from almost 2.3 million on Monday.

Some 84,187 first doses have been given in Northern Ireland, on top of the 2,080,280 in England, 91,239 in Wales and 175,942 in Scotland, to give a UK total of 2,431,648.

So far, 412,167 second doses have been administered in the UK, including 393,925 in England, 97 in Wales, 15,288 in Northern Ireland and 2,857 in Scotland. In Northern Ireland there was a day-on-day rise of 6,182 first doses and 1,339 second doses.
