There is no limit to the benefits of exercise in reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease, a study has found.

Research led by the University of Oxford found that physical activity was not only associated with lower risk of developing cardiovascular disease but that those who were the most active gained the greatest benefit.

There is no upper threshold, according to the study published in the journal Plos Medicine, and “every move counts”.

People who were most active — in the top 25 per cent of activity level — had an average reduction in risk of between 48 and 57 per cent, the study suggested. The findings have important implications for clinical practice and guidelines on the amount of physical activity that people should
