More than 20 postcodes across the West Midlands have a Covid infection rate above 400 – despite the region seeing levels not seen before the festive period.

Parts of Worcestershire and dozens of areas in Birmingham and the Black Country still have an infection rate in the red as the continued battle to suppress the deadly virus continues.

Twenty-four areas – including Leamore and Kinghurst – have seen the infection rates stay above 400 cases per 100,000 people.

Topping the list is Featherstone West, Coven and Shareshill with a rate of 619 per 100,00 people.

This is followed by Selfield in Walsall with a rate of 595.

But the news comes as the West Midlands as a whole drop below 300 cases per 100,000 people and has been classed as blue.

Dudley has one of the lowest rates in the area with a rate of 195. Birmingham and Wolverhampton are ranked second with a rate of 234.

Sandwell is third, followed by Walsall, with rates of 234 and 296.
