Coronavirus cases continue to rise in 13 areas across England as Boris Johnson gets ready to reveal his lockdown exit plan.

The Prime Minister is tomorrow expected to receive key data which will inform his decision-making ahead of an announcement on February 22.

Infections are now dropping in 301 places across the country, statistics show – which equates to 96 per cent.

But cases are still surging in 13 – or four per cent of – local authority locations week-on-week, according to new data.

One area remains unchanged.

A further 12,057 coronavirus cases and 454 related deaths were reported in Britain today, while nearly 17million people have been vaccinated.

Infection numbers are still significantly lower than the levels seen over Christmas, as lockdowns and the national vaccine rollout take effect.

And official figures have shown that Britain’s ‘R’ transmission rate is now below 1, currently reading 0.7-0.9.

Mr Johnson is expecting long-awaited information on how vaccines are affecting cases, hospitalisations and deaths.

A government source confirmed the data is due by the end of Friday ahead of the PM signing off his lockdown roadmap at the weekend.

Areas still rising

Corby in Northamptonshire has the highest rate in England according to the latest figures, with 229 new cases recorded in the seven days to February 14 – the equivalent of 317.1 cases per 100,000 people.

And Sandwell in the West Midlands is in third place, down from 383.3 to 271.0, with 890 new cases.
