31 people with a positive covid test have passed away in the past 24 hours, bringing Scotland’s death toll under this measurement to 6,916.

Speaking at today’s daily briefing, Deputy First Minister and Education Secretary John Swinney confirmed 885 new cases were recorded overnight, making up 4.4% of all tests, and bringing the total number of positive tests to 195,839.

267 of these were in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 166 in Lanarkshire, and 163 in Lothian.

1,222 people are currently in hospital with coronavirus – a decrease of 39, while 98 are in intensive care, which is three more than yesterday’s figure.

Mr Swinney also confirmed 2,500 schools have received testing kits ahead of the return of pre-school and primary 1 to 3 pupils and limited secondary school pupils on Monday. The remaining allocations will be delivered to schools today or at the beginning of next week.

The Education Secretary urged everyone in schools offered testing to take part.
