Another six people have died from Covid-19 in Berkshire hospitals, according to official figures published today (February 20).

Statistics published by Public Health England have revealed that another six people have died in local NHS trusts, as frontline workers continue to battle the virus.

The six newly recorded deaths all took place in Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust. Since the start of the pandemic 1,176 people have died from coronavirus while at the trust.

The county also received more positive news, after Government figures showed that the number of new cases of the virus are continuing to fall.

However, 104 new cases of Covid-19 were recorded across the county today.

The highest number was reported in Slough, where 34 new cases were discovered.

The lowest number of cases were found in Bracknell Forest, where just seven positive tests were returned.

Nationally, there were 10,406 new cases of coronavirus reported across the UK, bringing the total number since the start of the pandemic to 4,105,675.

Sadly, the national figures also showed that a further 445 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for the virus. It means that so far 120,365 people have died within a month of returning a positive test.

The coronavirus reproduction number, or R value, across the UK is now between 0.6 and 0.9, according to the latest Government figures. Last week, the R number was between 0.7 and 0.9.

R represents the average number of people each Covid-19 positive person goes on to infect.

This is the latest breakdown of confirmed cases for each area of Berkshire since the start of the pandemic:

  • Bracknell Forest : 6,718 cases (increase of seven)
  • Reading : 10,342 cases (increase of 18)
  • Slough : 14,311 cases (increase of 34)
  • West Berkshire : 5,957 cases (increase of 16)
  • Windsor and Maidenhead: 7,891 cases (increase of 17)
  • Wokingham : 7,732 (increase of 12)

This is the latest data on the total number of deaths at NHS trusts in and around Berkshire:

  • Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust: 1,176 ( increase of six)
  • Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust: 483 (no change)
  • Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust: 32 (no change)

How many people have been vaccinated?

So far a total of 17,852,327 Covid-19 vaccinations have been carried out in the UK according to Government statistics.

Of this number, 17,247,442 were the first dose of a vaccine, while 604,885 were second doses.
