A further eight people have been confirmed to have died with Covid-19 in Devon’s hospitals, according to the latest NHS figures.

In its daily round up of Covid deaths, the NHS confirmed that two people had died at Derriford Hospital, and a further six at Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital (RDE).

One person was also confirmed to have died at Royal Cornwall Hospital.

On Thursday, RDE confirmed its 250th death since the pandemic began – alone totalling as many deaths as all the hospitals in Cornwall combined.

However, seven-day case rates across the two counties have been on the decrease – with the local authorities boasting the lowest rate per 100,000 being in Devon consistently.

This news also comes as DevonLive reported Devon and Cornwall having the lowest number of deaths for more than a month. You can read that full report here.

The NHS collects data on Covid deaths and announces them every day.

The deaths include people who may have died of other causes, but had Covid as a contributing factor on their death certificate.
